From Okwe Obi, Abuja
Coalition of Good Governance and Government’s Responsiveness has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against appointing a former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
This was contained in a letter to President Tinubu, dated July 17 and signed by the President of the group, Adebowale Rasheed Abiodun.
Abiodun noted that while it was lawful for Tinubu to appoint the former governor to his cabinet, he urged the President to hold on pending the outcome of the investigation of the dollar scandal by the Kano State House of Assembly.
The letter read in parts: “As we applaud your decisive steps and strategic appointments, we must draw your attention on to some ominous clouds gathering from the North-Western state of Kano.
“Sir, it is your appointments from this all-important “political” state that will lead Nigerians to know whether your government will be a business-as-usual one sir, or whether indeed we have a “Renewed Hope” to look up to.
“As you well know sir, not all things lawful are expedient. While it is lawful to appoint the erstwhile Governor (Ganduje) of Kano state to your cabinet, it is not expedient.
“Your Excellency, the former Governor Ganduje has many questionable issues to answer to, but most especially, he has a pending matter of a video that went viral which showed him collecting dollars and putting them away, apparently in his office and his agbada.
“We know that he is innocent until proven guilty, but we have read that forensics have shown that the tape was not doctored! It is highly probable that he will be prosecuted in Kano soon or be invited by the EFCC.
“Your Excellency will agree with us that this is not time for a person with questions about his character begging for answers to be invited to your cabinet.
“Your bold decisions, and actions, devoid of personal and party sentiments will send a positive signal to the country that it will not be business as usual.
“We seek for our democracy to be strengthened and so we hope and pray that your government will be a success.
“We urge you to avoid the blemish that the appointment of Ganduje will bring on this government, which has started so well.”
