From Tony John, Port Harcourt
Suspected political thugs have destroyed canopies and other materials planned to be used for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Omuma Local Government Area, Rivers State.
Daily Sun gathered that the attack happened in the morning when youths were arranging the venue.
Community sources said hoodlums in military camouflage with five Hilux vans stormed the venue and
shot sporadically.
According to one of the sources, who simply gave his name as Kachi, said the armed youths destroyed the canopies and looted phones and generator sets.
Kachi disclosed that hoodlums destroyed a Hilux van belonging to the Leader of APC in Omuma LGA, Onyekachi Ojiegbe.
However, the incident did not discourage the governorship candidate of the APC, Tonye Cole, and his campaign train, as the latter paid homage at the palace of the community.
The campaign eventually started without further arrangements for the property destroyed by the hoodlums.
It could not be ascertained the perpetrators of the attack and the Rivers State Police Command has not made an official statement concerning the incident.
