Veteran Nigerian musician and political activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has spoken candidly about the realities of staying married for nearly five decades, admitting that long-term marriages are not always exciting and require constant effort to survive.
Speaking during an interview on Yanga 89.9FM, the outspoken singer and social commentator said marriage is largely about managing differences and learning how to live with one another despite disagreements.
Reflecting on his relationship with his wife, whom he has been married to for almost 48 years, Charly Boy said quarrels remain a regular part of their union but stressed that they always find ways to resolve their issues.
“All marriages are management, including my own. Me and my wife, we are like Tom and Jerry now,” he said.
According to him, disagreements are inevitable in any marriage, adding that what matters is the willingness of both partners to settle their differences and move forward.
