Security agents have taken over the Rivers State House of Assembly complex following a fire outbreak at the chamber around 10:30pm on Sunday.

We gathered that the Federal fire service had earlier put off the fire .

Late Sunday night, over dozen security vans including an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) were reportedly positioned along the Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, where the House of Assembly is situated.

This was coming amidst rumours of an impending impeachment moves against the state Governor Sim Fubara and Leader of the House.

However, there has not been any official report from the state Police Command on the incident.

Also, the identities of the perpetrators have not been revealed.

Meanwhile, the Coalition of Democratic Vanguard, has warned  against the plan to impeach the governor and House Leader, Edison Ehie.

The coalition condemned any attempt to undermine the democratic process and urges all parties involved to respect the will of the people and prioritise the betterment of Rivers State.

The Chairman of the group, Thompson Orumbo and Secretary, Peter Nwabunna, in a signed statement impeachment attempts should be rooted in concrete evidence of wrongdoing and carried out through legitimate channels.

The coalition said: “Impeachment attempts should be rooted in concrete evidence of wrongdoing and carried out only through legitimate channels, ensuring transparency and accountability.

“The Coalition of Democratic Vanguard emphasises that any attempts to impeach Governor Fubara and Rt Hon Edison Ehie must adhere to these democratic principles, if not, it will be fully resisted by Rivers people.

“Rivers State has made significant strides in the pursuit of development and stability under the leadership of Governor Fubara. The governor, has championed policies and initiatives that have positively impacted the lives of the citizens. Political squabbles and power struggles should not hinder the progress, and the people’s mandate must be respected.

The coalition warned those behind the alleged impeachment plot to prioritise the interests of the people and set aside personal and political interest.

“The unity and stability of Rivers State should be the primary goal, with cooperative efforts dedicated to achieving sustained development, improved infrastructure, and the welfare of its citizens.

“Should they have genuine concerns regarding the performance or integrity of Governor Fubara and Rt Hon Edison Ehie, they should first present concrete evidence through appropriate channels such as investigations or inquiries. This would ensure that any actions taken are based on facts instead of subjective perceptions or personal motives.

Supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have gathered along Bank Road in the state capital in solidarity with the House of Assembly.

Also, House of Assembly, it was gathered, said it would sit this morning notwithstanding the fire outbreak at the chamber last night.
