A wave of political anxiety has gripped the city of Kano following the fixture of today by the Court of Appeal for the delivery of its judgment on the disputed governorship election.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, confirmed the development, as he explained that the notice of the judgement was conveyed to their legal team in Abuja.

The Court of Appeal had on November 6 reserved judgment in the appeal filed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, challenging the September 20 verdict of the State Elections Petition Tribunal, which invalidated his victory and returned the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, as winner.

The Daily Sun reports that so far the metropolitan area has been tensed but orderly. There were also prayers said at various Muslim worship places for a favourable outcome by sympathisers of both political parties.

Two days ago, the state Police Command barred all politically motivated gatherings as well as unguarded political statements, while assuring the public that it had deployed its men to strategic locations as part of measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order arising from the judgment.
