TeensThink, a renowned program fostering leadership and academic excellence among teenagers, has taken a significant step towards international recognition. Their annual essay competition, previously focused on Nigeria, transformed into international in its 2024 edition, addressing the critical issue of food security.

From Left to Right: Deina Mayaki (Co-founder/CEO Agriarche Ltd), Aboyeji Toluwanimi (Winner, TeensThink 2024 edition), and Kehinde Olesin (Convener and Founder, TeensThink) at the TeensThink international Essay Competition in Lagos.

Held at the prestigious Radisson Blu Hotel in Lagos, the competition attracted a diverse group of young minds from across Africa. Students from Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Rwanda joined their Nigerian counterparts, engaging in stimulating discussions on food security challenges and potential solutions through well-researched essays.

Aboyeji Toluwanimi Elizabeth, a student from Funaab International School, Abeokuta, emerged as the overall winner. Her essay showcased a deep understanding of food security complexities and proposed innovative methods to promote sustainable agriculture in Africa. Otito Ofolue (Babington Macaulay, Lagos) and Owoeye Ayomide (Advanced Breed Comprehensive, Lagos) secured the first and second runner-up positions, respectively, demonstrating the exceptional quality of submissions.

An award ceremony acknowledged the outstanding achievements of all participants. Aboyeji Toluwanimi Elizabeth received a cash prize of 150,000 Naira, while Otito Ofolue and Owoeye Ayomide were awarded 100,000 Naira and 70,000 Naira respectively. These financial incentives highlight TeensThink’s commitment to both academic excellence and supporting young leaders who hold the potential to shape a secure future.

Kehinde Olesin, Founder of TeensThink, expressed immense pride in the participants’ accomplishments. He emphasized the organization’s dedication to equipping teenagers with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the intricate world of global food systems. Olesin reiterated TeensThink’s commitment to empowering young minds through workshops, mentorship programs, and comprehensive educational initiatives, recognizing “the transformative power of education and leadership.”

The event featured a keynote address by Deina Mayaki, Co-Founder and CEO of Agriarche Ltd., a prominent figure in the agricultural sector. Mayaki encouraged participants to leverage technology as a driving force for increased agricultural adoption across Africa. Her address underscored the significance of innovation in achieving sustainable food security measures on the continent.

Adeboye Adeyemi, Chairman of TeensThink’s Advisory Board, commended the winners for their exceptional contributions. He remarked, “Your work is a beacon for others to follow,” highlighting the potential of the essays to spark crucial conversations, challenge established norms, and pave the way for a future where food security is a reality for all.

The TeensThink 2024 competition’s success wouldn’t have been possible without the support of esteemed partners and sponsors such as Sifax Group, Nigerian Breweries, Multichoice, and MTN. This collaborative effort signifies a shared commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders with the knowledge and vision to tackle food security challenges and build a more sustainable future.

TeensThink, an initiative by MarchMedia, a leading marketing and communications agency in Lagos, transcends the boundaries of a mere competition. It serves as a dynamic platform that fosters future leaders through innovative programs and initiatives. With every essay competition, TeensThink continues to empower young minds to tackle global challenges and contribute to a brighter future for all.
