In a strategic move to tackle the growing demand for skilled tech professionals, TechHer Nigeria has secured a strategic partnership with Renewed Hope Initiative Foundation, Simba Technologies, and leading Fintech companies, to train, and mentor 5000 women over the next five years. This groundbreaking initiative is designed to bridge the gender gap in the tech industry by providing women with essential tech skills training.
The initiative comes at a time when the need for tech talents is on the horizon, as tech companies across Nigeria and Africa scale rapidly. According to statistics Nigerian companies are losing more than $10 billion annually due to tech skill shortage, the unemployment rate is at a high 35% and increased to 65% in women.
In her remark, the founder of TechHer Nigeria, Olubunmi Ayebiiwo, highlighted the organisation’s commitment to advancing gender diversity and creating pathways for women to thrive in tech-driven roles. “At TechHer Nigeria, we believe in a future where women are integral drivers of innovation, especially in tech.
The program is a cohort-based 6-month program with two cohorts per year delivered both physically and virtually that will encompass training, mentorship and internship placement for practical experience. Ikuopenikan stated that TechHer Nigeria will leverage their previous experience of running multiple successful programs and training. She highlighted that participants will be selected through a multi-stage application process that prioritized candidates without the financial means for such elite training but who demonstrated a strong passion for acquiring tech skills.
“We’ve already trained and/or mentored over 600 women since our inception and they’re excelling in the industry. Many have secured roles in top tech companies such as Flutterwave, Interswitch, and PiggyVest, while others have launched their startups,” Ikuopenenikan added.
“Many of our previous trainees were selected based on their strong passion for tech and lack of financial means to access world-class training. These individuals are now excelling in their careers, with many landing jobs in top tech companies such as Flutterwave, Interswitch, and PiggyVest, while others have even launched their own startups,” Ikuopenikan added
Ada Onuli, Partner, Renewed Hope Initiative, shared her enthusiasm for the partnership. “This program is quite a landmark achievement for us, we are thrilled to collaborate with TechHer Nigeria and partners to run this 6 months program and create impactful pathways for women in tech. TechHer’s commitment to gender diversity is commendable, and we call on like-minded companies to invest in initiatives that empower the future of women in technology. Together, we can build a more inclusive and innovative tech ecosystem”.
