Teachers have been encouraged to take advantage of the technological innovations and several other digital resources to improve their competencies, thereby increasing their chances of relevance and earnings.
The teachers were also informed that the era of stereotypes is gone. Hence, they should be open to advanced knowledge and digital skills on improved ways of administering knowledge and moulding destinies of children and adolescents in their care.
The messages were passed at the 2025 Train DTrainers Teachers Summit on the theme “Deconstruct the old, define the new” held in Abuja, at the weekend, with impressive number of teachers across schools in FCT in attendance.
Convener of the summit, Dr. Kachy Jumbo, in his address to the teachers, highlighted the significance of the theme of the summit in the 21st century world driven by technology and the urgent need for adjustments and new knowledge and skills for relevance.
She took the teacher through steps of global advancements in the teaching profession vis-a-vis how knowledge is impacted using several digital tools and resources, as well as huge opportunity therein.
She said: “Era of stereotypes are gone. You can’t stay glued to your old knowledge and skills that are outdated and expect to remain relevant in the world that is constantly being redefined by technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI).”
She reminded them of the need to constantly develop oneself and also be versatile in several areas of interest, putting in mind of the constant changes in society majorly driven by technology.
Dr. Kachy reinforced the fact that teaching is a call to society development and nation building, urging the teachers to carry themselves high, and not look dejected and downcasted because of unfavourable working conditions and poor renumeration, but adopt ingenuity to remain relevant.
“Without technological knowledge in today’s world, you won’t be useful. For instance, AI has come to stay, and it’s left for you to maximise the usage so you can make more impact on your students.”
She, however, organised some basic tutorials on various AI tools and other digital resources that the teachers could use to maximise impact.
