Gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen militia, have again attacked Imande Avur, Abande, Mbaikyor, Turan, Kwande Local Government (LG), of Benue State, killing a father and his son.

A former councillor in Kwande, Akerigba Lawrence, disclosed this in a message to newsmen in Makurdi, yesterday.

The councillor said the victims, who were farmers, were killed while trying to earn their living.

His message said, “Again, there was a brutal attack on our community by Fulani insurgents yesterday, Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Imande Avur, Abande, Mbaikyor, Turan, Kwande LGA of Benue State.

“During the attack, Elder Abur Alam and his son, Ikyaa Bashi, peaceful farmers, were killed while trying to earn a living.”

He noted that following the attacks, several residents have been displaced, while others are living in great fear.

He expressed the fears that the attacks have become frequent, and if allowed to go unchecked, the effects would be devastating.

The former councillor also lamented that the absence of timely intervention of security agencies have worsened the situation, just as affected families receive no meaningful support.

According to him,”For past two weeks, our people are being attacked and killed everyday. The government have forgotten about us. This is a wake up call. The people of Turan can no longer endure this bloodshed. Immediate action is required to stop these attacks, protect lives, and ensure justice. Enough is enough,” Akerigba said.

Benue State Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet said she was not aware of the incident yet.
