From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri
The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has accused the Federal Government of being insensitive to the security situations in the South East following a Supreme Court ruling on the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
The Igbo leader, who has also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to release Kanu as a Christmas gift to Igbo in a statement in Owerri, yesterday, said the continuous incarceration of Kanu portends danger in the South East, adding that it could hamper the unity of the country.
He observed that the idea of the Supreme Court referring the case to a lower court gives an impression that the Federal Government was not bothered or worried by the security situation in the region.
He said the presidential directive for Kanu’s release would reassure the Igbo speaking states that Tinubu is a listening leader who has the feelings of the people at heart.
Iwuanyanwu called on the people of Igbo speaking states to always go about their normal duties in compliance with the laws of the areas they find themselves.
He appealed to them to make new resolutions as they come back home for Christmas with a view to facing the challenges of the new year.
Iwuanyanwu, however, assured the programmes being pursued by his leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo would begin to bear fruit in the new year.
He also appealed to the federal and state governments to embark on people-oriented programmes that will alleviate the unbearable sufferings in the land, adding that they should focus on capital intensive projects that will employ the unemployed Youths.
