Nigeria’s Super Eagles will leave Cairo on Thursday for Fés, Morocco, as preparations intensify for the country’s campaign at the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.
The team is scheduled to travel aboard a chartered flight following their international friendly against Egypt at the Cairo Stadium, a match arranged to fine-tune tactics and assess squad depth ahead of the continental tournament.
Head coach Eric Sékou Chelle and his technical crew are expected to use the final days in Cairo to evaluate player fitness and cohesion before turning full attention to Nigeria’s Group C fixtures in Morocco. The friendly against Egypt also provides a final opportunity to assess both experienced players and new faces vying for places in the matchday squads.
Nigeria will be based in Fés for the group stage of the competition, with all three of their matches slated for the Complexe Sportif de Fés. The Super Eagles will open their AFCON 2025 campaign on Tuesday, December 23, against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars, before facing 2004 champions Tunisia on Saturday, December 27. They will conclude the group phase against Uganda’s Cranes on Tuesday, December 30.
The Super Eagles are targeting a fourth continental title, having previously lifted the AFCON trophy in 1980, 1994 and 2013. The campaign has been branded “Naija 4 The Win” as Nigeria looks to add another chapter to its AFCON history.
Upon arrival in Fés, the team is expected to settle into its tournament base and begin final preparations ahead of their opening group match.
