The Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Samuel Kanu-Uche has implored Federal Government to reach truce with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in order to avert continued youths unrest.
Kanu-Uche said there was no ambiguity in the demand of the National Association of Nigerians Students (NANS) so, government should listen to their outcry and settled with ASUU, which has kept students at home for over seven months .
The prelate plea yesterday while, announcing the church’s 180th anniversary of existence and 60 years of Autonomy in Lagos.
He said the current crisis being witnessed by the educational sector of the country was as a result of Nigerian’s leaders approach in managing the country’s affair.
Samuel Uche held that Nigeria is running a transactional government adding that there would have been no ASUU strike, insecurity and other social atrocities if transactional government is not in existence.
“Most of what we have been having in Nigeria are transactional government.
“Transactional government is what goes into my pocket. If it is not transactional government, there will be no ASUU strike, there will be insecurity”, he said.
According to him, Nigeria is given below the recommended the allocated percentage to education contrary to what the international community stated.
“We are urging Federal Government to have proper dialogue with ASUU.
“It has been there since ASUU was there. In international community, it is suggested that 20 percent should go to education.
“Nigeria has never done this. I see it as maladministration,” he said.
