Former President Goodluck Jonathan and Delta state Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, have admonished Niger Delta youths to discontinue their violent approach in the ongoing agitation for infrastructural development of the region. They urged the militants to embrace intellectual approach that would enhance constructive criticism of government.
Speaking in Oporoza, the headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area, yesterday, while presenting the staff of office to His Royal Highness Oboro Gbaraun II, the governor noted that in as much as he has nothing against agitations by ethnic groups, the problem commonly associated with it had always been that of when to stop.
Also speaking, Jonathan further emphasised the need for the region to embrace peace if the growing desire for infrastructural growth and human capital development must be met.
His words: “We are happy today, and our friends from outside will feel better, because people don’t believe you can come here (Gbaramatu) and have peaceful gathering. I continue to stress, like the governor, that there can’t be development without peace.”
