StarTimes, a digital TV service provider has announced a free upgrade offer for its subscribers in Kano, Kaduna and Benin, who still use the old T1 decoder (the silver set-top box decoder).

The free upgrade offer aims to provide a better viewing experience to its esteemed subscribers, as the T1 decoder signal will be switched off on June 30 in these cities.

According to StarTimes Nigeria Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Joshua Wang, the T1 decoder was introduced as the initial decoder when StarTimes launched in 2010, but it has become outdated and has limited channel options.

He said: “We are offering all our T1 decoder subscribers the opportunity to upgrade to the new T2 decoder for free. The T2 decoder has better signal quality, clearer images, and more channel options. Kaduna, Kano and Benin are the last cities simultaneously using T1 and T2 signals. Other cities have fully migrated to T2 decoder signal.”

He added: “To take advantage of this offer, visit our business halls or select dealers, come with your T1 decoder and remote, recharge for one month on classic bouquet, and swap instantly to the T2 decoder at no extra charge. We encourage you to act fast as the old StarTimes (silver colour) decoder will stop receiving signals from June 30.

“It is important to note that you must present your T1 decoder and its remote control to get the T2 decoder and new remote control.

He further said: “We understand that many of our subscribers fall into the average income bracket, and that is why we have made this upgrade available for free. We believe that every subscriber should be able to enjoy the best digital TV experience regardless of their income.

He concluded: “We remain committed to providing quality and affordable digital TV service to all our subscribers. We urge all T1 decoder subscribers in Kano, Kaduna and Benin to take advantage of this offer and upgrade to the T2 decoder before June 30.”
