In a concerted effort to strengthen inclusive and equitable education across Nigeria, a two-day training workshop took place recently in Abuja to support the implementation of Result Area 1 under the Better Education Service Delivery for All Additional Financing – Transforming Education Systems at State Level (BESDA AF-TESS) Phase II Project.
The initiative, jointly supported by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and the World Bank, underscores a shared commitment to ensuring that every child particularly those in hard-to-reach, underserved, and rural communities has access to quality education.
Result Area 1 specifically targets the expansion of educational access through community-driven school development.
A key highlight of the workshop is the review of the revised Minimum Standard Document, which includes updated Construction and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Manuals, as well as Supervision Guides. These tools have been meticulously revised to address the implementation gaps identified during Phase I of the project. Far from being mere procedural documents, they are seen as transformative instruments poised to reshape the educational landscape and uplift communities nationwide.
The workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including Directors of Physical Planning and Social Mobilization, State Project Implementation Units (SPIUs), Environmental and Safeguard Specialists, Gender-Based Violence Specialists, Technical Officers, and other key actors.
The event was declared open by the Deputy Executive Secretary, Technical, Mr. Rasaq Olajuwon Akinyemi, who represented the Executive Secretary, UBEC, Aisha Garba.
The objective is not only to build technical capacity but also to foster collaboration and shared ownership of the project’s goals.
As the BESDA AF-TESS project moves into its next phase, the insights and feedback gathered during this workshop will play a critical role in refining strategies and ensuring that no child is left behind in the pursuit of quality education.
