Sportsville Communications has declared its support for the 11th edition of the Okpekpe International 10km Road Race, promising extensive publicity for Nigeria’s only World Athletics Gold Label Road Race.
Speaking during the unveiling of the company’s support for the race, Sportsville Chief Executive Officer, Frank Ilaboya, praised the competition for its significant contribution to the growth of sports and tourism in Edo State and the host community of Okpekpe.
Ilaboya, who revealed that he has attended every edition of the race since its inception, described the event as a transformational project that has brought global recognition to the once quiet community.
“I have attended all the editions of the race since its inception and I must say I am very proud of the impact the Okpekpe Race has made within the immediate community of Okpekpe, Edo State, and the country as a whole,” he said.
According to him, the race has become a shining example of excellence in sports organization, noting that its World Athletics Gold Label status reflects its quality and international standard.
He also commended race promoter Mike Itemuagbor for his vision and consistency in sustaining the event over the years.
Ilaboya disclosed that Sportsville has already commenced promotional activities for the race with a daily countdown to the May 30 event, adding that the organization’s involvement goes beyond media coverage.
“We are joining the organizers to mobilize publicity for the race because it means more than just a sporting event to the Afemai people and the people of Edo State,” he stated.
The Okpekpe International 10km Road Race remains Nigeria’s only World Athletics Gold Label Road Race and has continued to attract international attention since its inception.
Sportsville, one of Nigeria’s longest-running independent sports television programmes, began airing in 2000 on NTA 10 before expanding to more than 18 television stations across the country.
The organization also introduced the annual Sportsville Special Recognition Awards six years ago as part of efforts to promote and reward excellence in Nigerian sports.
