Traditional rulers across the South East have commended the achievements of Igwe Alfred Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, as he marked 24 years on the throne.

The monarchs, speaking under the aegis of the South East Council of Traditional Rulers, credited Igwe Achebe with strengthening unity among royal fathers in the region and leading efforts to eliminate harmful cultural practices in Igbo land.

Chairman, South East Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Emmanuel Okeke, who spoke on behalf of the council, said Igwe Achebe’s great attributes can never be matched, emphasising that he has fostered greater collaboration among monarchs in the zone.

“His mentorship has brought together the monarchs in the zone and, more importantly, helped in kicking against some obnoxious practices in Igbo land,” Okeke said.

Igwe Achebe ascended the throne of Onitsha in 2002, and has since been a prominent voice in traditional affairs in the South East. His anniversary was marked by celebrations and tributes from fellow traditional rulers, community leaders, and indigenes.

The South East council of traditional rulers said it viewed Igwe Achebe’s 24 years of service as a benchmark for stability and cultural preservation in the region.

Okeke, who is also the Chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Community Policing, also showered praises on Governor Hope Uzodimma for his consistent support to traditional institutions.
