The City Boy Movement Student Coordinator, Ogun State, Comrade Temitope Afolabi, has commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritising student financing and expanding support for education across the country.
Afolabi, popularly known as Big Afo, made this known in a statement issued on Saturday.
This followed the president’s recent directive to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that eligible liquid funds recovered by the anti-grant commission be channelled to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support its growing student loan obligations.
Afolabi described the Tinubu administration’s continued attention to student financing as a significant step towards reducing financial barriers confronting Nigerian students in tertiary institutions.
He noted that the cost of education can place considerable pressure on students and their families, making accessible and sustainable financing an important component of educational development.
According to him, the expansion of student financing demonstrates a recognition of the important role young Nigerians play in the future of the country.
“Education is one of the strongest investments any nation can make in its future. When we support students financially, we are not merely helping individuals; we are building the human capital that will drive Nigeria’s development tomorrow,” he said.
The City Boy Movement Student Coordinator, Ogun State, further commended the Federal Government for creating opportunities through student financing initiatives, while urging relevant agencies to ensure that the programmes remain accessible, transparent and efficient.
He called for continuous improvement in the application and disbursement processes, stressing that eligible students should be adequately informed and supported throughout the process.
Afolabi also appealed for continued expansion of student financing opportunities to accommodate more students across universities, polytechnics, colleges of education and other recognised tertiary institutions.

He maintained that access to education should remain a major priority in national development, adding that students should not be left behind because of financial difficulties.
He further urged Nigerian students to reciprocate government’s efforts by taking their academic responsibilities seriously, embracing skills development and preparing themselves to contribute positively to society.
“As young Nigerians, we must recognise the opportunities being created for us and make responsible use of them. Government has a responsibility to support education, while students also have a responsibility to pursue excellence and become productive citizens,” he stated.
Afolabi stressed that student financing should be seen as a long-term investment in Nigeria’s human capital, noting that students who receive the necessary support today could become tomorrow’s professionals, entrepreneurs, academics, innovators and leaders.
He also encouraged student leaders across the country to continue engaging relevant authorities constructively on issues affecting students, particularly in the areas of welfare, education financing, infrastructure, skills acquisition and employment opportunities.
According to him, constructive engagement between government and student representatives is essential to developing policies that genuinely respond to the realities faced by students.
The Ogun State Student Coordinator of the City Boy Movement reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote educational advancement, youth development and student welfare.
He further appreciated President Tinubu for placing student financing and educational support among the areas receiving attention from his administration, while encouraging the Federal Government to sustain and improve these interventions.
Afolabi stated, “A nation that invests in the education and welfare of its students is investing in the strength and prosperity of its future. We commend the efforts so far and look forward to seeing even greater support for Nigerian students.”
