The Soje family has urged the Adegbajo royal family to refrain from selling, leasing or otherwise dealing with a disputed parcel of land in Eredo, Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State, pending the determination of an appeal before the Court of Appeal.
The dispute involves land located at Atake-Mafara, Semisolose, Taramigbuya, Agodo and Igbonla in Eredo.
The warning follows the February 12 judgment of Justice W. Animahun of the Lagos State High Court, Epe, which declared the Adegbajo family the rightful owners of the land.
Dissatisfied with the ruling, the Soje family, through its counsel, James Babatunde Alara, filed Appeal No. CA/LAG/CV/426/2026, urging the appellate court to set aside the judgment and uphold its counterclaim.
The appellants argued that the trial court erred in evaluating the evidence and wrongly held that occasional gifts constituted tribute sufficient to establish customary ownership.
In a letter dated June 8, the Soje family alleged that the Adegbajo family had begun erecting signboards on the disputed land to attract prospective buyers.
The family warned that any sale or alienation of the property while the appeal is pending could prejudice the judicial process and create avoidable tension.
It also maintained that hundreds of residents, farmers and businesses currently occupy the land and that substantial investments could be jeopardised if the status quo is not maintained.
No date has been fixed for the hearing of the appeal.
