Siemens Healthineers has entered into a strategic partnership with the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE), Abuja, to advance radiology, oncology, cancer care and treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) across Nigeria and the African continent.
The collaboration, announced in Abuja at the weekend, is aimed at driving technological advancement in healthcare delivery while expanding access to high-quality medical diagnostics and treatment.
Under the partnership, Siemens Healthineers will deploy advanced medical imaging technologies, precision diagnostics and integrated cancer care solutions at the African Medical Centre of Excellence. The initiative will also focus on equipping clinicians with the skills and training needed to operate these technologies effectively.
Industry experts said the partnership is expected to strengthen AMCE’s position as a regional hub for specialised healthcare, reduce the growing trend of medical tourism and address the persistent brain drain in Africa’s health sector.
The African Medical Centre of Excellence is designed as a world-class medical institution providing advanced healthcare services across oncology, cardiovascular medicine, haematology, radiology and surgical specialties.
The collaboration will also support cardiovascular care and clinical workflow optimisation aimed at improving early diagnosis, treatment outcomes and operational efficiency in hospitals.

Healthcare stakeholders noted that the initiative comes at a critical time as Nigeria and other African countries face a rising burden of non-communicable diseases.
In Nigeria, NCDs account for about 30 per cent of all deaths, while cardiovascular diseases alone contribute roughly 10 per cent of total fatalities.
Chief Executive Officer of AMCE, Brian Deaver, said the partnership aligns with the centre’s vision of delivering globally benchmarked healthcare services within Africa.
According to him, the collaboration will expand access to advanced radiology and oncology technologies while supporting training, research and innovation tailored to the continent’s healthcare realities.
“Our vision at AMCE is to build a centre that delivers internationally benchmarked care while serving as a hub for training, research and innovation rooted in Africa’s healthcare realities,” Deaver said.
He added that partnering with Siemens Healthineers would enable the centre to provide world-class diagnostics and treatment closer to home, helping improve early detection, precision treatment and patient outcomes in cancer care and other non-communicable diseases.
Managing Director of Siemens Healthineers Middle East and Africa, Vivek Kanade, said the partnership represents a major step toward advancing sustainable healthcare systems across the continent.
Kanade noted that through the deployment of advanced medical technologies and integrated solutions, the collaboration will help strengthen health systems, empower clinicians and expand access to quality care.
“Partnering with AMCE reflects the trust placed in our capabilities and marks a pivotal step in advancing sustainable, high-quality healthcare across Africa,” he said.
He added that the initiative will support improved access to diagnostics and treatment, while helping to shape a future where world-class healthcare services are available within Nigeria and across the continent.
Kanade also acknowledged the role of Tanit Medical Engineering in ensuring the seamless implementation of the project.
Stakeholders said the partnership between Siemens Healthineers and AMCE represents a significant step toward strengthening radiology-led diagnostics, cancer care and non-communicable disease management in Africa.
They note that by combining cutting-edge technology with talent development and specialised training, the initiative could help transform healthcare delivery across the region and make quality medical care more accessible and affordable for patients.
