The Labour Party (LP) National Publicity Secretary, Mr Obiora Ifoh, has said that the party is experiencing what he called “the worst kind of siege ever”.

The LP spokesperson stated this in reaction to calls by some state chairmen asking for the sack of the party’s National Chairman Julius Abure over the recent N3.5bn fraud allegations against him.

The state chairmen, led by Solomon Ndem of Plateau State, had urged the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to compel Abure, to step down and allow a fair investigation into allegations of misappropriation of campaign funds levelled against him.

In response, Ifoh asked the public to disregard the group, alleging that it was a mastermind of its expelled members who are bent on destroying the party.

Obiora said: “Please disregard the trending story that State Chairmen have passed a vote of no confidence on Abure.

“Former National Publicity Secretary of the party Abayomi Arabambi, in cohort with his rebel group, as usual assembled touts and labeled them state chairmen.

“It is a fake story and one of the sustained propaganda attacks initiated by their sponsors to discredit the party.

“The INEC recognised state chairmen will very soon address the media.

“Let it be known that the Labour Party is under the worst kind of siege ever but you can be assured that the party will survive them.”
