The children of a late Aba-based businessman, Chief Theophilus Ozigbo of Ndiogbuonyeoma, Arondizuogu in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State are warring over their late father’s property.
It was gathered that after the death of Chief Ozigbo, the six children peacefully managed his estates until a few years ago when the children formed two camps, with each trying to exercise control over the said property.
The first camp was said to be led by the first son of the man, Emmanuel Ozigbo, while the other was led by the last child of the family (female), Obiageri Ozigbo-Ubah.
Saturday Sun gathered that prior to now, there was peaceful sharing of the late Chief Ozigbo’s other property like his shops, but that trouble began when a sharing formula could not be reached at for his building at No. 177 Jubilee Road, Aba, where the first son, Emmanuel is residing.
Emmanuel told newsmen that on February 5, his siblings namely, Uchenna Ozigbo, Ebere Ozigbo and Obiageri Ozigbo Ubah (last born), used six armed thugs to unlawfully and forcefully eject him and his tenants, Pius Nwokeji and Chisom Nwokeji from the building.
Emmanuel alleged that the thugs engaged by his siblings unlawfully broke into his apartment and those of his tenants.
He said while inside the apartment, the thugs broke and pulled down the walls of his apartment including those of his tenants and damaged several of their properties.
Emmanuel also alleged that his sister, Obiageri who was married, but later returned home, connived with Uchenna Ozigbo and Ebere Ozigbo together with the thugs they hired to throw him and his tenants’ properties outside while others were removed or stolen.
He said that to successfully carry out their unlawful acts, the thugs shot sporadically into the air to scare people away.
He called on the police to thoroughly investigate the matter.
When contacted however, Obiageri denied using thugs to force out his brother, Emmanuel or his tenants from the building.
She acknowledged her brother as the first son but added that he lacks the capacity to take care of his father’s properties.
“Nobody brought thugs to force him out. The problem is that as the first son, he will always remain the first son, but he’s not responsible for what he should be.
“If he is the first son for real, he should be the one with the papers and organizing us, not the other way round. He should be himself”, Obiageri said.
