Former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has backed the country to stage a remarkable comeback to qualify for next year’s World Cup.

The Super Eagles are fourth in their qualifying group with seven points from six matches, while South Africa top the standings on 13 points with four rounds of matches to be played.  They will welcome second-placed Rwanda to Uyo on September 6, before they travel to leaders South Africa three days later.

“Everything is still possible, but it’s how to get it done,” Siasia said.  “Both the players and the coach have to now bring their ‘A’ game to these matches and it should be a game at a time, win one and get the confidence for the next one.   “We don’t talk about the other game, we focus on the first game.

“We have the players, but we have to be careful not to concede especially in Nigeria.”

Coach Samson Siasia he has not been reinstated to the national team setup because he is seen as “a trouble maker”.

Siasia has long served out a FIFA ban, but he has yet to take up a notable coaching post.

The former international striker has previously worked as coach of the country’s U23s, U20s as well as the full international team, the Super Eagles.

“They don’t want to give me work because they say I am trouble maker,” Siasia said in a radio interview.

“I call a spade a spade and they will dismiss me as a controversial coach.

“They march on my head and they expect me to say ‘thank you sir’.”
