From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated Bola Tinubu administration’s dedication to supporting Nigerian youths in reaching their full potential and contributing to the country’s growth and development.

He said this during a courtesy visit by the National Executive Council of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), led by its President, Comrade Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo.

The NYCN is set to celebrate its 60th anniversary in November 2024.

Shettima emphasised the importance of engaging the youth, who constitute nearly 75% of Nigeria’s population, stating, “Once we engage the youths, once we give them hope for a better tomorrow, all the madness pervading this land will dissipate.”

According to a statement issued by Media Aide to Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, the VP commended the NYCN for its support of the Tinubu administration’s programmes and activities, saying, “We cannot thank you enough for keeping the hope alive for the Nigerian youth.”

The Vice President highlighted the Tinubu administration’s efforts to support young Nigerians, including the creation of a ministry for the youth and the appointment of two young people to head the ministry. He also mentioned that he has appointed many young persons to key positions in his office.

Shettima assured the NYCN delegation that the administration is aligned with their aspirations and has lined up several opportunities for them, such as the iDICE project, which will create digital jobs, including in the creative industry.

The National President of NYCN, Sukubo, expressed the Council’s readiness to collaborate with the federal government in addressing the issue of illegal oil bunkering.

He also announced that the NYCN, established on August 28, 1964, in Lagos, is gearing up to commemorate its 60th anniversary this year.

On behalf of the Council, Sukubo extended an invitation to the Vice President to officially unveil the anniversary events, which are expected to draw participants from across the country. The NYCN delegation also appealed to the federal government to construct a Youth House.
