Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday joined thousands of Muslim faithful for Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the expansive Ramat Square in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The event drew a massive turnout, filling the venue to capacity in a striking display of faith and unity. Prayers were led by Borno State’s Chief Imam, Shettima Mamman Saleh, with prominent dignitaries in attendance, including Governor Babagana Zulum, Senator Ali Ndume, and Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, among other notable figures from the state.

Speaking to journalists after the prayers, Vice President Shettima voiced optimism about curbing nationwide insecurity. He said proactive measures by the federal and state governments would soon yield results.

He called for national unity, highlighting the overlap of Ramadan and Lent as a key moment for reflection. “National progress is inseparable from peace,” he stressed, urging Nigerians to unite against shared challenges such as insecurity and underdevelopment.

Shettima also praised the people and leaders of Borno for their resilience and dedication to peace, harmony, and progress.

In his earlier sermon, Chief Imam Shettima Mamman Saleh urged worshippers to extend Ramadan’s lessons—discipline, sacrifice, and devotion—into everyday life. He emphasised sustained piety, compassion, and social responsibility as vital for fostering a peaceful, cohesive society.
