American R&B group, Shalamar, will perform in Abuja on October 4 as part of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebrations.

The Grammy-winning trio—Howard Hewett, Carolyn Griffey and Jeffrey Daniel—will headline a concert at the International Conference Centre, where they are expected to thrill fans with classics such as A Night to Remember and I Can Make You Feel Good.

The event is promoted by iCreate Africa in partnership with First Culture Limited. iCreate Africa’s CEO, Bright Jaja, described the concert as a “long-overdue gift” to Nigerian music lovers, while First Culture’s Creative Director, Tunde Babalola, said it would serve as “a musical bridge between the past and present.”

In a video message, the group expressed excitement about returning to Nigeria. Jeffrey Daniel, credited with pioneering the “backslide” dance move that later became known as the Moonwalk, promised fans “a night to remember.”

Shalamar last performed in Nigeria in 1982, with sold-out shows at the National Arts Theatre, University of Lagos, University of Ibadan and the then University of Ife.

Tickets for the Abuja show are now available.
