Tijjaniyyah movement in Nigeria has announced some adjustments in its leadership in Nigeria, aimed at strengthening the Islamic order in Nigeria, thus fostering unity and strength in the movement globally.
Khalifa Sheikh Mahy Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse, in a statement, explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders and senior scholars (Sheikhs). He said the decision was endorsed by members of the movement who participated in the recently concluded Mawlid celebrations, which witnessed global participation by adherents.
Niasse, in the statement, announced the unanimous decision to discontinue the Office of Khalifa in Nigeria, a decision, he said, aligned with the return of Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II to the throne of the Kano Emirate.
He also added that the National Mawlid celebrations of Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse in Nigeria would now be under the direct leadership of Sheikh Mahy Niasse.
“He will work closely with other Sheikhs and Muqaddams to ensure that the event continues to serve as a unifying and spiritual milestone for the Tijjaniyyah movement,” he said.
On the oversight of Tijjaniyyah movement in Nigeria, the Khalifa explained that the affairs of the movement in Nigeria would continue to be guided and counselled by two highly revered scholars, Sheikh Tahir Usman Bauchi and Sheikh Sharif Ibrahim Saleh Al-Husaini, expressing confidence in their scholarship, wisdom and dedication, to provide a steady hand in leading the Tijjaniyyah community as they have done over the years.
The Khalifa also announced the establishment of a World Tijjaniyyah Assembly, which he described as a bold step towards fostering global unity. To this end, he said an international office has been established to facilitate the formation of a World Tijjaniyyah Assembly.
He said that through the office, the proposed assembly would be a platform for the promotion of collaboration among Tijjaniyyah Sheikhs worldwide, adding that the Assembly would also work to strengthen and enhance international ties between the Tijjaniyyah movement and other organisations.
Khalifa, however, stated that the resolutions marked a new and interesting chapter for the movement around the world.
He congratulated all Muslims for the celebrations, and called on Tijjaniyyah community to remain united and committed to the collective mission of the movement.
He prayed that Allah SWT would guide all members of the movement in implementing the resolutions for the benefit of the Tijjaniyyah community in particular and the Ummah in general.
