The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, gave the charge on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area.
Oborevwori congratulated the corps members for successfully completing the three-week orientation exercise, saying their conduct is a demonstration of discipline, resilience, teamwork, and commitment to the ideals of the NYSC.
He called on corps members to approach their places of primary assignment with integrity, patriotism, and a strong sense of responsibility, noting that Nigeria needs the energy, creativity, and innovative spirit of its young graduates.
He also charged them to become agents of positive change wherever they are posted by contributing meaningfully to the growth and development of their host communities.
Oborevwori noted that community development remains one of the core objectives of the NYSC Scheme, urging the corps members to identify areas where their knowledge and professional skills could make meaningful contributions.
According to him, “Let your service year leave a positive and lasting impact on the lives of the people you serve. I also urge you to take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme.”
“In today’s competitive world, self-reliance and entrepreneurship are essential. Equip yourselves with practical skills that will enable you to create opportunities for yourselves and others.”
“As ambassadors of national unity, continue to promote peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and understanding among people of diverse backgrounds. The friendships you have built here should remind you that our diversity remains one of our greatest strengths as a nation.”
Earlier, the State Coordinator, NYSC Delta, Mr. John Vandi Kwaghe, commended corps members for their discipline, maturity, and sense of responsibility displayed throughout their stay in camp.
He added that their conduct reflects the core values of the NYSC Scheme and that it has shown a reason to believe that you (corps members) will serve with dedication, integrity, and patriotism.
He explained that, “The drills, sporting activities, lectures, and other social activities enriched the orientation course by promoting teamwork, discipline, physical fitness, and healthy competition.
“They also strengthened the spirit of unity and friendship among you, corps members, which remain some of the enduring objectives of the NYSC Scheme.”
He said, “As you proceed to your places of primary assignment, I urge you to uphold the ideals of the Scheme. Be law-abiding, respect the customs and traditions of your host communities, and discharge your duties with diligence, humility, and integrity. Remember that you are ambassadors of the NYSC and worthy representatives of your respective families, institutions, and our great nation.”
He thanked the Delta State Government, under Sheriff Oborevwori, for its unwavering support and the enabling environment provided for the smooth operation of the Scheme in the state.
“We are encouraged by Your Excellency’s fatherly disposition and commitment to transforming the Delta NYSC Orientation Camp into one of the best in the country.
“The NYSC in Delta State remains committed to supporting the laudable policies and programmes of the State Government. I respectfully appeal for the implementation of Your Excellency’s recent pronouncements on addressing the camp’s critical needs, as this will further enhance our operations and ensure the smooth conduct of future orientation exercises.”
