Senator lauds Tinubu for granting autonomy to local councils in Nigeria

The Senator representing Kano South Senatorial Zone, Sulaiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila has lauded President Bola Tinubu for his decision to grant autonomy to local government councils in Nigeria.

A statement issued by the Senator envisaged that the position of the Federal Government on the issue would alleviate the suffering of the Nigerian masses.

He appreciated President for aligning with the Senate’s efforts to empower grassroots communities, which have long been plagued by hardship and suffering

He observed that local government autonomy will spur development, improve national economy and increase Internally generated revenue through agricultural value chains and commercial activities at that level

He equally appealed to the Presiden to address the challenges surrounding local government elections, which are often manipulated by politicians st the srate level for personal gain .

Sumaila stressed that the Legislative and Executive arms of government had done their bits in supporting local government autonomy and urged the Judiciary to exercise its constitutional rights in deciding on the matter.

He expressed gratitude to the Senate President and his deputy for allowing him to table the issue before the Senate and thanked his colleagues for their support.
