Senator representing Ogun West at the National Assembly and Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, at the weekend, disclosed that no fewer than 9,000 women, youth and other interested constituents have undergone vocational and empowerment training facilitated by him.
The senator noted that the trainings including skills acquisition organized in two phases were part of implementation of projects facilitated into the 2022/2023 budget across all the five local government areas of Ogun West.
Adeola, who stated this in a statement issued by his media office and signed by his Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro, said that all the trainees were trained from a pool of selected constituents in fashion designing; phone repairing; confectionary; event planning; block interlocking/POP fabrication; paint making; barbing; cassava/plantain value chain; honey bee value chain; hairdressing and agric value chain.
He added that the training took place at various centers in the 5 LGAs of Ogun West over a period of two weeks.
Adeola, in the statement, further pointed out that programme in skills acquisition and vocational training for women and youth was in line with his representative agenda which is encapsulated in his philosophy of ‘teaching constituents how to fish instead of just giving them fish endlessly’, in addition to other representative programmes to bring development to the senatorial district.
According to the senator, the beneficiaries apart from being certificated, some of them will be empowered with seed funds of various sums as well as equipment to start their own businesses towards being self-employed and making positive contribution to the economic growth of the country.
“As promised to my people during my electioneering, you do not need to know me personally or belong to my party to benefit from these programmes. I am representing every one from my senatorial district. I am sure that constituents in need of training and empowerment that presents themselves will be trained and benefit in due course. This is one of my own ways of implementing the philosophy of teaching a man to fish instead of perpetually giving out fishes”, he was quoted to have said in the statement.
While reiterating his readiness to offer effective representation in Ogun West, Adeola emphasized that “these trainings are the beginning of my programmes for all parts of Ogun West that cuts across education, health, road infrastructures and provision of potable water”.
