The Senate has constituted a committee to oversee the activities of Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio disclosed this at the resumption of plenary on Tuesday.
According to him, the committee was constituted to strengthen transparency and accountability in the governance of Rivers during the state of emergency period.
He stated that the 18-member committee has Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, as its Chairman.
Akpabio added that the composition of the committee could be subject to review following further consultations.
Members of the committee include Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu (South East), Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire (Ondo), Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe (Labour Party), Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed (APC, Jigawa), alongside the Clerk of the Senate.
President Bola Tinubu swore in Ibas as the Sole Administrator of Rivers on March 19.
This followed the declaration of state of emergency in the state and suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months.
