Security operatives have rescued nine abducted persons, including two Reverend Sisters, who were kidnapped in Eburumiri, Ibagwa-Aka, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The victims were kidnapped on Saturday, April 26, 2025, between 8pm and 9pm, by suspected armed men who stormed the area and whisked them away.
Confirming the development in a press statement on Friday the Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South LGA, Ugo-Ferdinand Ukwueze, revealed that three victims were rescued within 24 hours of the incident, while the remaining six, including the Reverend Sisters, were freed subsequently.
“Within 24 hours, I am pleased to report that three of the abductees were successfully rescued through the courageous efforts of the operatives.
“As of today, the 2nd day of May, 2025, all nine persons have been rescued and are now undergoing necessary medical evaluation and psychological support, reunited with their families,” Ukwueze said.
He condemned the abduction, describing it as “an assault on our collective dignity, our communal peace, and the very conscience of society.”
The Chairman commended the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, for his swift intervention and mobilisation of security resources that bolstered the rescue efforts.
He also praised the security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, the Military, the Igbo-Eze South Neighbourhood Watch, and the Forest Guards, for their bravery and effective coordination.
“Their commitment, agility, and local intelligence network were instrumental in tracking movements and achieving these rescues. Their bravery must not go unnoticed. We thank you for your sacrifice and your patriotism,” he said.
Ukwueze assured that the hunt for the perpetrators continues, stressing that the matter does not end with the rescue of the victims.
The Chairman announced plans to overhaul the local security structure, enhance intelligence gathering, and host a stakeholders’ summit to develop sustainable, community-driven security strategies.
