Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering the growth of small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), with a particular focus on food vendors.
Over the past five years, the governor noted, his administration has supported small businesses through public-private partnerships, leading to the emergence of agripreneurs across Lagos State.
Speaking at the Lagos Food Festival held at Muri-Okunola Park, Victoria Island, the governor emphasised the importance of empowering small food vendors. The event, organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, was themed “A Taste of Culture.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu also showcased his cooking skills at the festival, preparing Efo Riro alongside renowned Chef T. The festival drew thousands of attendees, including state officials, traditional rulers, students, and youth, celebrating the significant contributions of small food businesses to the state’s economy.

The governor highlighted the success of vendors like House of Ile Iyan, which gained prominence through the festival and has become a household name within three years.
“The food festival is not just about entertainment; it is a platform for small businesses to showcase their products, skills, and scale up,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He also praised the collaboration between the government and private sector, describing it as vital to Lagos’ development.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, stressed the festival’s role in promoting entertainment, tourism, and culture. She also outlined government initiatives to reduce food prices by improving infrastructure and involving students from tertiary institutions in the food value chain.
“The goal of the food festival is to celebrate and support all stakeholders in the food value chain, from farmers to market women and consumers, highlighting the vibrancy of Lagos in food, entertainment, and culture,” she said.
