In a statemen, Bello described the award as a “well-deserved reflection of impactful leadership,” asserting that the state’s educational improvements are the result of deliberate investment rather than chance.
Bello noted that more than 100 schools have been constructed across Edo in the past year, expanding access to quality education in underserved communities.
He also highlighted the recruitment of 6,000 teachers to address manpower shortages and improve classroom instruction, alongside the regularisation of contract staff and rehabilitation of classrooms.1

Speaking on tertiary education, Bello described the increase in subventions to Ambrose Alli University from ₦41 million to ₦500 million monthly, and Edo University from ₦25 million to ₦250 million monthly, as bold and unprecedented steps aimed at strengthening institutional stability.
He further commended the reintroduction of bursary payments after over two decades, as well as the partnership with NELFUND to prevent students from dropping out due to financial challenges. According to him, the administration also cleared over ₦4.6 billion in retired workers’ liabilities, restoring dignity to educators.
Bello added that thousands of students previously affected by administrative delays have now progressed academically, including 128 medical students, 810 nursing graduates, and over 1,000 students cleared for the National Youth Service Corps scheme.
He also referenced the upgrading of science laboratories in 20 public secondary schools and the launch of a Digital Learning Centre where 100 girls were trained in artificial intelligence, robotics, coding, and data analytics. Partnerships with global and national technology institutions, he said, have positioned Edo students to acquire internationally relevant digital skills.
The aspirant noted the completion of internal roads at Edo State Polytechnic after 23 years of neglect, the construction of a 250-room legacy hostel at the Edo State School of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology, and the implementation of minimum wage for polytechnic staff with five months’ salary arrears cleared.
According to him, the hallmarks of Governor Okpebholo’s administration are policy clarity, discipline, and effective execution, which have resulted in measurable improvements across the education sector.
