…As audience fills three screening halls
Bold Pictures’ award-winning Lagos musical drama, Which Way, has premiered in Africa at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), with overwhelming audience demand prompting organisers to secure a third screening hall after the original two halls filled up.
The invitation-only premiere, held at Filmhouse Cinemas, Landmark, Victoria Island, attracted more than 350 registered guests, underscoring growing interest in the film.
Directed by Jide Okeke and written by Temi Mattu and Okeke, Which Way follows Ladi (Floyd Igbo), a Lagos mechanic whose unresolved childhood trauma begins to affect his wife, Beatrice (Chidinma Nebo), and their teenage daughter, Feyi (Mariam Kayode).
The musical drama explores the emotional complexities of family relationships, domestic violence and the consequences of unresolved trauma. Its songs, performed live by the actors during filming, serve as an emotional outlet for characters struggling to express themselves.
Guests arriving at the premiere were welcomed by a masquerade, reflecting the Yoruba cultural influences woven into the film.
Speaking on the significance of the Lagos premiere, producer Jumafor Ajogwu, founder of UK-based Bold Pictures, said: “We shot this film in Lagos, finished it in the UK and took it to Portugal, but it was always coming home.”
The screening was followed by a question-and-answer session involving the director, cast and producers.
Which Way won Best Director and Best Cinematography at the Portugal Indie Film Festival earlier this year.
The film stars Floyd Igbo, Chidinma Nebo, Mariam Kayode and Onome Akpotebu, alongside Chimezie Imo, Stan Nze, Ijeoma Grace Agu and Yemi Blaq.
Bold Pictures presents the film in conjunction with Afribold Pictures Network and Future 6 Media.
