Kano Command of the Nigeria Police has banned all durbar activities throughout the state during the upcoming Sallah celebrations.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Thursday, explained that the measure was taken as a result of series of security reports obtained in the state.
He added that the decision on the ban was reached following wide consultations made with relevant security stakeholders in thr state to ensure the safety of the larger community.
Daily Sun gathered that the ban on the colourful cultural activity, which is usually led by a sitting Emir, may not be unconnected with the fragile security situation in the state.
At the moment, both the purportedly deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero and the reinstated Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi are occupying two different palaces in the state capital with their loyalists rearing to confront each other.
The statement however assured worshippers in the state of their security, urging them to conduct their normal Eid prayers at the various designated Eid praying grounds, as it was traditionally done in the past.
“On a final note, the Command encourages continued collaboration and cooperation from all stakeholders to collectively work together to build a safer and more secure environment” the statement said. End
