Sacked workers of the Enugu State Water Corporation are free to continue with their normal duties, the Chairman of Enugu State Council of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, Comrade Ben Asogwa, has said.

Asogwa, who, together with other Labour leaders in the state, addressed workers of the Corporation on Tuesday, said the termination of the appointment of 20 workers did not have the blessing of the governor.

“As far as the governor and government of Enugu State is concerned, no worker has been disengaged because there are laid down procedures in the Enugu State Civil Service Rules, 2014, for disengaging workers found wanting for any reason.

Asogwa said that in the interaction between the Labour leaders and Enugu State governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, the governor had frowned at the development and assured the workers that he could not champion any action that would inflict pains on the them.

“So, he subsequently directed that all the affected workers should return to their duty posts,” he stated.

Reacting to the governor’s timely intervention, the Labour leader thanked the governor for always showing both in words and action that he has the interest of workers at heart.

“But I must also urge all workers in the state to be law abiding and very diligent in the discharge of their duties for which they are paid to ensure a more productive service delivery to the people of Enugu State,” he added.
