Rwandan army mourns peacekeeper killed in CAR

The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), on Wednesday, expressed condolence in a statement over the death of a Rwandan peacekeeper killed in the Central African Republic (CAR).

The peacekeeper was killed in a rebel attack earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, RDF remains committed to the protection of civilians within the mandate of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and the other peacekeeping missions it contributes to.

Since Dec. 19, major armed groups have reportedly been on an offensive to disrupt the presidential and legislative elections that took place on Dec. 27.

Provisional results showed that the CAR’s President Faustin-Archange Touadera won the absolute majority in the first round of the presidential election.

The final results of the election will be announced by the Constitutional Court by Jan. 19. (Xinhua/NAN)
