The newly installed Governor of Rotary District 9142, Kelechi Anyanwu, has vowed to prioritise initiatives aimed at tackling diseases in schools and communities, underscoring Rotary’s commitment to improving public health.

Anyanwu, who disclosed this during his installation as the ninth district governor, 9142 in Owerri, the Imo State capital, regretted that so many people had been afflicted with diseases that ordinarily could have been prevented with better outreach.

He said: “I thank you all for your support, as we embrace the theme of this Rotary programme ‘Beacon of hope.’ In a world filled with uncertainty, Rotary will shine even brighter, offering all glimpse of hope.

“Our service this year will focus strongly on Rotary set areas of focus, which remains the pillar but first, this leads into dialogue and youth leadership; outreaches that will prevent diseases and strengthen our communities, sanitation projects in our state, especially in our secondary schools.

Also speaking, Dr. Nneka Ewenike, chairman of the occasion noted that Rotary was trying very hard to collaborate with the government and ensure the realisation of its set objectives.

However, she advised Nigerian leaders to shun corruption and stealing of public funds, so that available funds would be enough to reach out to suffering masses.

She said: “Rotary believes so much in integrity. If you’re a real Rotarian, you won’t take something that belongs to another person; you wouldn’t want the person to suffer. We condemn corruption one hundred percent. This life is short, no matter how you loot money and store, one day you will die, but the legacy you leave behind is what matters. Let’s stop storing this money. Let’s bring it out to help others so that Nigeria will be a better place.”
