The Rotary Club of Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, in collaboration with Rotary International District 9112, has donated some state-of-the-art medical equipment to two health institutions in Lagos metropolis.

The donation of electric and manual theatre tables to Lagos Island Maternity Hospital is to enhance its surgical capacity while Ikate-Primary Health Center received a hydraulic delivery bed to support its maternal and child health services.

President of the Club, Ms Comfort Anorue, who said the initiative started from the last rotary year under the leadership of Mr. Sina Elusakin, noted that the initiative was aimed at addressing the critical equipment shortages and boosting service delivery in both facilities.

She also said the equipment would help to reduce maternal and child mortality rate as they would equally improve pre and post natal care delivery services.

She noted that Island Maternity Hospital which records between 150 and 250 deliveries every month, had been using outdated and faulty theatre tables. “With the new equipment, we anticipate that the hospital will be able to save over 1,000 newborns annually through improved surgical procedures.”

Similarly, the hydraulic delivery bed donated to Ikate-Primary Health Centre replaces a broken unit, thus restoring essential maternal care services for the community.

She noted that the donation underscores Rotary Club’s enduring commitment to community development with a strong focus on healthcare, especially maternal and child health.

At the Island Maternity Hospital, the MD/CEO, Dr. O.M Omololu, Dr Fashina and Mrs A.M Olayemi (HOD Social welfare)  and other senior staff were on hand to receive the equipment.

Both recipient institutions expressed gratitude, affirming the life-changing impact of the gesture on the wellbeing of patients and the broader community.

The event witnessed the participation of the Rotary club’s leadership sector, hospital management staff and members of the public, President Comfort Anorue, Omolola Ayodele, Past Presidents Yetunde Dimowo and Emmanuel Idoko as well as Kende Ajulo, Olubumi Abegunde and Folashade Ali.
