Award-winning Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, Argentine Lionel Messi and Brazilian Neymar da Silva Santos are among the world’s top 10 footballers with the largest social media followings while leveraging it to make big bucks.
Over the years, professional footballers have strategically built their online presence, using platforms like Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook and YouTube to boost their visibility and net worth beyond the game. This has resulted in endorsement deals, relevance, and higher earnings.
Footballers who manage their platforms effectively can command huge profits from a single sponsored post. Oftentimes, this influence reflects positively on the club the player belongs to.
One of the examples of how a footballer’s social media reach can boost their club’s profile is Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
