The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Tuesday continued its ongoing Nationwide Federal Roads Project Tour with a visit to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
NANS President, Comrade Babatunde Akinteye led a delegation to the highway and commended the Federal Government for its investment in quality infrastructure, according to a statement sent to Daily Sun.
Akinteye said the delegation was impressed by the scale of the project, one of the largest infrastructure projects being executed by the Federal Government.
“I must say that we are impressed by the sheer scale of this project. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is not an ordinary road construction project. The massive bridges, the scale of the construction and the foresight behind the project reflect the Federal Government’s remarkable investment in infrastructural development,” he said.
He noted that the economic value of the highway could not be overemphasised, adding that upon completion, it would improve connectivity, ease movement of people and goods, open up economic opportunities and strengthen commercial activities across geopolitical zones.

“The most impressive part of it is the rail system that comes with the road,” he added.
The NANS president said the association’s interest goes beyond the quality of construction to how the infrastructure will improve the welfare and mobility of students who travel across the country to academic institutions in the South-South and South-West.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, for the drive behind the project.
“Quality infrastructure is essential to national development, of which Nigerian students are major beneficiaries,” Akinteye said, adding that the association remains committed to assessing federal roads leading to campuses and offering unbiased commendations and recommendations.
