• Assembly debunks intimidation allegation by lawmaker
Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor, Chukwuemeka Woke, has warned that Rivers people will resist any attempt, from any quarters, to attack the Abuja residence of Governor Nyesom Wike.
Speaking during Emohua Local Government Area Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign, yesterday, in Ward 1 and 2 of the area, Woke said the announcement by the Rivers All Progressives Congress (APC), Flag Amachree, of alleged illegal plot, will fail.
He said: “They should know Rivers people are prepared and vigilant. They will resist any attempt by the APC-led Federal Government and her agents to attack the residence of the Rivers State governor.
“Rivers APC has no state chairman because of their undemocratic culture. The party will continue to fight among themselves.”
Woke noted that the Rivers APC cannot get through the backdoor what they couldn’t get through the several rerun elections conducted in the state.
He maintained that the APC is dead in Rivers state because the people have rejected the party because of its non-performing nature.
On the forthcoming local government elections, Woke said PDP will win in Emohua council.
He announced that out of the 14 wards in Emohua council, the ward with the highest percentage of votes will be presented an award.
PDP chairmanship candidate for the council, Chief Tom Alieze, said his first assignment will be the restoration of peace to Wards 1 and 2. He added that youth empowerment will also receive full attention by his administration.
Highpoint of the campaign rally was the defection of hundreds of APC members to the PDP. Women Leader of APC IYM Ward 2, Hannah Odike, said they defected in recognition of the outstanding performance of Governor Wike.
Meanwhile, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have countered alleged intimidation and marginalisation by the Speaker, Ikunyi Owaji-Ibani.
The denial came on the heels of an allegation by the lawmaker representing Ahoada East Constituency I, Martins Mannah, who had raised the alarm that some members were intimidated and denied funds for constituency projects, for not being loyal to the speaker.
Mannah, who, at the weekend, defected to APC) from the PDP, also decried absence of training for the legislators, saying lack of training has affected the performances of the lawmakers and legislations in the state.
But, in a swift reaction, the House Committee Chairman on Information and Communication, Sam Ogeh, described the allegations as baseless, unwarranted and figment of Mannah’s imagination.
Ogeh told newsmen, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, that the House freely conducts its legislative business without any intimidation or influence from any angle.
He urged Mannah to provide evidence of his claim, maintaining that no funds for constituency projects were withheld as alleged by the lawmaker.
Speaking further, the committee chairman added that several constituency projects by the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration are ongoing across the state, including Ahoada East.
