A fast-emerging Afrobeat artist, Milkesh, has opened up about how financial struggles and life experiences shaped both his personality and his music, as he continues to build a career rooted in storytelling, resilience, and inspiration.
Milkesh, who hails from Ondo State, said growing up in a challenging environment gave him the drive to succeed and pushed him toward music as a form of expression.
According to the artist, Afrobeat became a natural path because of its ability to combine rhythm with real-life narratives, allowing him to tell stories that resonate with young people facing similar realities.
He explained that pursuing music was never solely about fame but about purpose and representation. Through his sound, he aims to reflect the struggles, ambitions, and determination of youths striving to overcome difficult circumstances.
“My music represents resilience and ambition,” he said, noting that his songwriting is largely inspired by personal experiences and the environment in which he grew up.
Milkesh also emphasized that his heritage plays a strong role in shaping his style, with local culture, rhythms, and everyday realities influencing both his lyrics and delivery. His calm personality, he added, is reflected in his unique vocal approach and messaging.
Beyond entertainment, the artist said he hopes his music will inspire listeners to believe in themselves, maintain faith in God, and pursue their dreams regardless of obstacles.
Despite financial challenges, which he described as one of the biggest hurdles in his journey, Milkesh said perseverance and discipline have kept him focused on his goals.
Looking ahead, the Ondo-born artist said he envisions himself performing on global stages and becoming an internationally recognized Afrobeat act. Among his dream collaborations, he named Burna Boy, whom he admires for his authenticity and global representation of African culture.
Industry observers say stories like Milkesh’s reflect a broader trend of young Nigerian artists using music not only as entertainment but also as a platform for social reflection and motivation.
