Anti Buhari rioters today blocked the Lagos Ibadan expressway with bonfires to prevent motorists and commuters from using the road.
The protesters made up of young men armed with clubs and other dangerous weapons rained abuses on President Muhammadu Buhari for his bad governance especially the new naira policy that has halted economic activities across the country. They were throwing stones and chatting anti Buhari songs. For over two hours since we got to epicenter of the riot, no security men came around to clear the mob. Meanwhile the gridlock caused by the development has already spilled into adjoining streets and Magboro and Mowe in Ogun State.
When eventually some five police who apparently seemed to be guiding a VIP on his way through the route tried to clear the way, the rioters chased away calling thieves.
So far there are no indications that the Police high command has done anything yet to calm the tensed situation for people to continue their journey
Some Okada riders retreating from the site of the bonfire could be heard warning people to restrain in Hausa language saying; ‘Baa hanya baa hanya” meaning no road. For now it’s complete bedlam, as vehicular movement is completely paralyzed.
Earlier on Friday, reports monitored on news channels said similar riots were recorded in Mile 12, Ketu and Ojota axis of Lagos State. Details later
