Penultimate week, the world slept and woke up to an ugly news that American special forces invaded Venezuela, got into the presidential palace, where they captured President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, put him in handcuffs and flew both to America.
News reports confirmed a full invasion of the country’s capital as the Americans came fully equipped. The security personnel of the home country are said to have suffered heavy casualties. The exact figure was not known at the time of writing this piece but indications suggested it was high.
President Maduro and wife have since made an initial court appearance on charges of terrorism and drug offenses. Maduro who pleaded not guilty ran a line of defense which rested on the plank he was an elected president of his country, Venezuela; captured and forcefully taken to America where he is to stand trial. His early stance has serious implications.
Before we discuss the rightness or otherwise of the American action, it is important we point out that several developments have followed the invasion of a sovereign country and the abduction of her President. The United States President said his country would take over the administration of the country from Washington. Eventually the Venezuela’s Vice President has been sworn in as Acting President and she is said to have agreed to cooperate with the American government, which already has told the world Venezuela would be shipping between 30 to 50 million barrels of oil to America to sell and thereafter administer the fund in the interest of the American and Venezuelan people.
America has also disclosed it has a long term interest in the Venezuela oil sector, stating that her companies would be returning to do business in the sector. It said her action was part of a grand plan to effectively take charge of the hemisphere so as to enhance her economic and security interest.
Inside all of that could be located why America chose to invade a sovereign country in the 21st century, abduct and disgrace a sitting President. We will come to whether it was a reasonable act or not but the world correctly has been shocked at the pattern of reactions.
Except for China and Russia then the one from African Union who offered tempered condemnations and the one from the United Nations that came through very late, it would seem the whole chose to look the other way or mind their business. Except for Britain, which issued a statement to support America, their traditional pally, the whole of Europe kept sealed lips.
Sages have since established that all it takes for evil to thrive is for the far majority to keep quiet. Since the world appeared to have not seen anything wrong with the act, it emboldened America and Britain to go ahead to accost in the international waters oil tankers flying Russian flags. The excuse was that the ships were part of those doing illegal oil business beating sanctions against Iran and Venezuela, among others. The expansion of unbridled territorial influence is raising new tensions and pointing to possibility of a new global warfare.
One was tempted to leave out this matter and concentrate on the many local matters making life very difficult for the people but on second thought the implications of the Venezuelan development holds far greater danger for the entire world than whatever is happening in our home country.
Invasion of one country by another perhaps, a stronger one isn’t acceptable under any guise. It is a criminal act. Needless to say, it is an anti-progress move capable of turning the world upside down. It is a retrogressive venture, an act very capable of turning the world back to the dark ages when life in the society was ” brutish, nasty and very short” because all anyone or society needed to thrive and to stay triumphant was for the strongest to annihilate the weak.
This kind of social relationship was first tasted in the early days of human existence and in some point of our modern era and everyone agreed it wasn’t the best if humanity must survive and maintain sanity. The United Nations has a law prohibiting such an option.
This is why the mellowed statement from the world body rankles. Many have said the body has lost much of her essence. It may well be very true given what is playing out and the body’s inability to offer strong standing. That humanity is rattled and yet chose to hide in an attitude of conspiratorial passivity should be a cause for great concern.
Critical segment of humanity should indeed be very troubled because this is the mindset that led the world to have slave trade and the colonialism that was later to follow the abolition of the inhuman trade on living beings. What has fueled this is not dictatorship per say on the part of Maduro, it is a supremacist ideology running riot as it is wont to do whenever it rears its ugly head. Always tied to this warped philosophy is economic grabbing. Donald Trump has already said they want control and in addition the country’s wealth.
Wrong left unchallenged becomes a norm; since America has not received enough chastisements it is getting set to venture a part of Europe in search of more territories. The Greenland within Denmark is the new target. After that it would be Mexico, Cuba and the whole of Africa.
This is the danger often associated with one man definition of the world. The urge to play God always loomed very large. It grows intense when one mercurial fellow gets into a big and powerful office.
One mentioned Africa and some of those may wonder. Africa is the lowest point in war power contestation. It has been and unfortunately has remained so. Some Africans are still wondering how few whites came to Africa and overwhelmed the huge population before they could establish the slave trade and later executed colonialism. Africans have turned out to be the most docile group of the world.
They loathe rigour, are unimaginative, lack a sense of creativity and organization. The evolution to arms contest, fight or survival of the fittest didn’t start years ago it has been a key hallmark of the modern world and the question would be with all wealth available to the African where in the ladder are they located?
North Korea has been harassing all but who dares to enter? They know the golden rule that only a very strong man is capable of keeping his house. Balance of power, anyone intending to attack them risk turning the entire world into a place of intense inferno. They have what it takes. Some of run with the prediction that Africa may be recolonized very soon and what would motivate this? Simple, the expediency of rebuilding developed countries which currently are beginning to experience a kind of unraveling. Developed countries are beginning to run down and it is giving the leadership concerns.
They marketed globalization but because of negative economic indices they are running away from a one world philosophy they themselves made up and sold to the world.
Whatever it is, a return to primitivity won’t help anybody, race or country. Might for strength would make life and living unbearable for all and it will lead the world to destruction. This is why men of goodwill should rise and call President Trump to order before he leads the world to establish an order that would cost us the world where we live.
