The Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has called for the immediate reconstitution of health boards in Nigeria.
The association made this known in a 15-point resolution issued at the end of its national executive council meeting and scientific conference in Calabar, Cross River State.
In a communique read at the end of the meeting by its national president, Dr. Osundara Tope, he explained that the reconstitution of the boards, particularly the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, would help foster efficiency and accountability.
“The NEC observed with disappointment that the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and most federal tertiary hospitals lack fully constituted and functional boards of management.

“This is a situation that continues to hinder the smooth and effective administration of these institutions and the health sector.
“The NEC demands that the Federal Government immediately constitute, inaugurate and empower full and functional boards of management for the MDCN and all federal tertiary health institutions.
“This will ensure accountability, transparency and efficiency in the management of these institutions,” the resident doctors demanded.
They also demanded among others, the payment of arrears, implementation of national minimum wage and recognition of postgraduate certificates by the MDCN.
They equally called for a streamlined promotion process and inclusion in the civil service scheme.
