The House of Representatives has urged the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to urgently resuscitate the power transmission substation in Yenagoa.
The House, which mandated its Committee on Power to ensure compliance, said this is imperative to prevent power distribution and transmission in Yenagoa.
This followed the adoption of a motion by Oboku Abonsizibe Ofor calling for the resuscitation of Yenagoa Transmission Substation.
Ofor, in his lead debate, told the House that on September 2023,” the 132/33KV Transmission Substation serving Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital and its environs was gutted by fire, throwing Yenagoa in total darkness. “
The lawmaker added that since the incident, Bayelsa State “has been struggling to use only a feeder to supply five feeders. “
He expressed worry “that the operational feeder is getting weak and, if urgent steps are not taken, the feeder will collapse…the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company has been carrying out remedial services to avert the collapse of the weak operational feeder.”
