The member representing Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey, has urged leaders across Nigeria to invest massively in primary education which is the foundation of education for a bright future.
Hon. Bassey made the call while handing over a newly constructed and well furnished classroom blocks to the Head Teacher of Government Primary School Okoroba, Eneyo North, Akpabuyo local government area, Cross River State.
Bassey, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness, was represented at the occasion by his Legislative Aide, MrJoshua Ante.
He said that the project was part of the promises he made to residents of the community during his electioneering in 2023.
“Now is the time for us to deliver good governance and the promises we made to our people.
“Beyond party lines, we must be committed to investing in the education of our children who are the leaders of tomorrow because the future lies in their hands,” he said.
The lawmaker assured the people that he would continue to attract developmental projects that have direct impact on his constituents with a view to promoting their socio-economic growth in the federal constituency.
Head Teacher of the school, Mrs Umo Bassey, lauded the lawmaker for giving the school a beautiful outlook, adding that a conducive environment promotes teaching and learning.
She said that before the intervention by the lawmaker, the school was in a deplorable state as they were exposed to sun and rain while studying.
Also speaking, a community leader, Mr Asuquo Okon Asuquo, described Hon. Bassey as “a man of integrity and dignity”, thereby praying for his political upliftment in the years ahead.
In attendance at the brief occasion were; the Councillor representing Eneyo ward, Hon. Ita Okon Ekpo, the Executive Secretary Education Authority, Akpabuyo Local Government, Mr Paul Etim, the Village head of Okoroba, Chief Bassey Okon Ene, the Youth Leader of Okoroba village, Mr Edem Asuquo Okon among others.
