Referendum: MASSOB, IPOB fire back at Arewa youths

Pro-Biafra groups have described as cheery news the call on the United Nations by the Arewa Youths Coalition to facilitate the conduct of referendum towards the actualisation the sovereign state of Biafra.

  In its reaction to the development, the Uchenna Mmadu-led Movement for the Actualsation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) said it “heartily welcome the supportive voice of Arewa people.”

  In a press statement yesterday signed by Mmadu, MASSOB said: “We heartily welcome the supportive voice of Arewa people through their well-tutored and backed youths on writing to the United Nations for the quick conduct of a referendum that will determine the peaceful exit of Biafra from Nigeria.

  “In as much as MASSOB commends the Arewa people for this upright support, we condemn their hypocritical and biased minds on which ethnic nationalities that make up Biafra. Arewa people have no moral justifications or natural right in demarcating the land of Biafra. They have no such right in telling us who Biafrans are or are not. The people of the Eastern region are all Biafrans irrespective of their ethnic nationalities. As we are not interested in dividing or demarcating the people of Hausa, Fulani, Nupe, Gwari and other ethnic nationalities in the North-east, North-west and North-central which comprise Arewa land, we warn them to stop their divide and rule antics in Biafra land as such no longer works.

  “Their pathological opposition against the people of South-south in being part of Biafra is because of jealousy and envy against Ndigbo.
